Barn Theatre - 11:00 am - 3:00 pm. PAPUA NEW GUINEA TRADITIONAL ART AND ARCHITECTURE
Called the 'Land of the Unexpected', the South Pacific country of Papua New Guinea (PNG) is one of the last discovered places on earth. Examples of its rich diversity of traditional art and architecture are included in this exhibit from the personal collections of Rahim and Marsha Milani and Andy and Mitra Engan of Willmar.
The Milanis lived in Papua New Guinea for more than 28 years. Rahim served there as Professor and Head of the Department of Architecture and Building at the PNG University of Technology until retiring in September 2010. His research focused on documentation of the country’s fast-disappearing traditional architecture. Marsha also lectured there in the Department of Language and Communication and translated several books into local languages of Papua New Guinea.
